Create the Perfect Eyebrows

The right eyebrows can transform your look in just a few minutes! Follow these easy steps to create the perfect eyebrow shape for your face!

  1. Prep your eye area.

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and warm water. Make sure that all makeup is removed, but do not use a makeup remover or lotion around the eye area. Pat dry.

  2. Make sure you have good light and a clear mirror.

Some people prefer to use a magnifying mirror, but I prefer to use a standard mirror. Good lighting is a must, however. You should be able to see every individual eyebrow hair without any straining.

  3. Choose the right tool!

Many of us don't tweeze or wax our eyebrows either, but the right style of tweezers is often a matter of preference. However, I find that for eyebrow grooming, a slant tip is best. Your budget is also a big consideration so I'll break down some Denco Slant Tip options for you by price:

These tweezers are made in Italy of carbon steel and are plated to resist rusting. They are inexpensive, but good quality, tweezers that will provide reliable and consistent results. These tweezers will be especially effective on longer, thicker hair and the discomfort when plucking each hair will be moderate.

These tweezers are made in Italy of stainless steel to resist rusting. They are moderately priced and offer a slimmer, non-plated tweezing edge. The slimmer edge allows this style of tweezers to easily grasp thinner, shorter hair. It also minimizes slipping and reduces tweezing discomfort to a mild level.

  4. Make a plan!

Stand back and look at your eyebrows in the mirror. Take a pencil and place it next to your nose (see figure 1). This is where the inside edge of your eyebrow should begin. Mark this spot with an eyebrow pencil. Now, take your pencil and extend it from your nose to the outside corner of your eye (see figure 2). This is where the outside edge of your eyebrow should end. Mark this spot with an eyebrow pencil too. Finally, move the pencil so it crosses the outside of your iris – the colored part of your eye (see figure 3). This will be the highest point of your eyebrow arch. Mark this spot with an eyebrow pencil. Now, using the eyebrow pencil, connect the dots (see figure 4). Remember to start out thicker than you think you want. You can always tweeze more, but you can't put hair back and it can seem like quite a long time to wait for your eyebrows to grow back in! The shape of your arch will look like figure 5.

  5. Mentally prepare!

OK, first of all, let's be clear that you're going to be plucking hair from the roots and no matter how good your technique is, this first time will not be painless. It's best to just accept that and move forward. Being nervous or hesitant will not help you here. Just tell yourself that, in the scheme of things, this is really no big deal and remember that after this initial shaping, you will only be maintaining your look. By the time you tweeze a couple of times, you won't even feel it anymore. It is the truth and, honestly, it really doesn't hurt that much to begin with.

  6. Start tweezing...slowly!

Now that you have your guide, it's time to start tweezing. Shape the underside of the arch first by tweezing one hair at a time. Pull your skin so it remains taught, isolate each hair and grasp it as close to the skin as possible. Keep a firm grip on the tweezers and pull gently in the direction of the hair growth. Step back and check your work in the mirror often to make sure you're not over-tweezing. I like to shape one eyebrow first and then move on to the other eyebrow. However, some people like to go back and forth between the eyebrows to make sure that they're symmetrical. Once you've shaped the underside and any stray hair between the brows, move on to the top. The idea here is to just remove stray hair, following your natural brow shape. Do not change your top arch!

  7. Sit back and enjoy the new you!

Once your brows have been shaped, have a good look in the mirror. Your face should look more polished, more open and yes, even prettier than when you started! Remember to check daily for new hair that's growing in your freshly tweezed areas and remove them as they come in. This will maintain your shape and keep your brow tweezing routine to a couple of seconds per day.
